Commercial Building Storm Damage
It is vital for property managers to call a professional restoration company when your Alliance business experiences flood damage. Leaving the water for an extended period can only cause more problems, such as the water absorbing the floors, walls and its contents. Additionally, flood water usually is not clean water, unlike the liquid that would come from a burst pipe inside of your building. Because of the nature of floods, the water can bring sewage, chemicals, and bacteria into your office. Hiring water damage professionals to your place of business, we will safely remove the unsanitary water safely.
Why Call SERVPRO?
When SERVPRO receives your call, we always strive to arrive at your property quickly. We understand how essential it's for your business to be open. After a walk through with our project managers a scope of work is determined, and the restoration process begins. SERVPRO can begin to remediate the flood damage using wet/dry vacuums. Getting the standing water out of your office building is our first task, so it cannot continue to spread contaminants and cause water damage to the structure of the space. After thoroughly cleaning the area with an antibacterial solution to ensure that contaminants are gone. SERVPRO can set up devices like dehumidifiers, drying mats, and air movers to draw the moisture out of the structure of the building. When the moisture levels of your building have been appropriately lowered, SERVPRO will remove all equipment leaving your building “Like it never even happened.”
When a storm causes flood damage to your business, never delay when trying to get help. Call 330-823-4088 to speak with SERVPRO of South & East Stark County. No matter the time or the day of the week, our crews are ready to assist you.

3 Ways to Winterize your Business in Alliance Ohio
12/23/2021 (Permalink)
Using a programmable thermostat can save you money on heating bills and possibly a future water damage to your business in Alliance, Ohio.
Tis the season for business owners to take a couple of extra days off. When you lock up your doors for the week between Christmas and New Yeats it is important to make sure you take a few extra steps to insure not to return to a water damage. During that week if the weather changes significantly - bitter winter temperatures can cause damages that will take a chunk out of your bottom line.
A few preventative steps can keep your business safe from the dangers posed by cold, ice and snow.
- Keep the water flowing. Frozen pipes can burst, causing major damage to any business location. Prevent this from happening by:
- Keeping your thermostats set at a minimum of 55°F when the building is empty.
- During especially cold situations, running a small trickle of water through your faucets to help keep pipes from freezing.
- Exposing pipes to warmer temperatures by keeping cabinet and utility room doors open.
- Making sure all pipes in difficult-to-access areas—such as crawlspaces, exterior walls, or attics—are insulated. Hardware or big box stores have foam and fiberglass insulation. The more insulated, the better!
- For unheated sprinkler control valve/fire pump rooms, using UL-approved gas or electric unit heaters to help keep temperatures warm.
- Installing a monitored electric leak detection system for the main domestic water line along with monitored electronic sensors near water sources to help you discover leaks before they cause significant damage.
- Keep your heating bills in check. Maintain an efficient furnace and keep energy costs under control with a few simple steps:
- Use a programmable thermostat to reduce heating costs by as much as 30%. During low-occupancy hours, set the thermostat several degrees lower for significant savings.
- Check your heating ducts to see if the insulation should be replaced. Inadequate insulation could lead to higher energy bills.
- Install energy-efficient glaze on windows and doors. Save money on your energy bills by replacing existing glass with low-emissivity glass designed to prevent heat from escaping. As much as 20% of a facility’s heat is lost through windows and doors.
- Clogged, dirty air filters can restrict airflow and increase your energy demands. Replace or clean your furnace filters regularly to keep your heating system efficient.
- Alter your ceiling fans so they rotate in a clockwise direction, which can reduce heating costs by forcing warm air near the ceiling lower and warming the room.
- Keep a roof over your head. Your roof can take the brunt of winter’s force, whether it is bitter cold, snow, or ice. Keep it in tip-top shape by:
- Clearing your roof of all debris, dirt, and leaves, which can block gutters and downspouts, preventing snow melt from properly draining away from the building. It can also cause ice dams and heavy snow buildup on your roof, which can cause additional damage.
- Inspect gutters and downspouts to see how securely they are fastened to the building. Snow and ice can cause gutters to weaken and break away from the building, allowing water to seep into the wrong areas.
- If a winter storm occurs, plan to have a professional snow removal service clear the roof of excess accumulation. This will prevent excessive loads on the roof and eliminate the possibility of structural failure.

Myths About Freezing Pipes in Commercial Properties in Canton Ohio
12/16/2021 (Permalink)
If you experience a pipe break in your Canton Ohio business, call the team at SERVPRO of South & East Stark County at 330-823-4088.
When it comes to frozen pipes over the winter, there are plenty of myths to go around. If you’re not a professional in these industries, it can be difficult to know what to believe about freezing temperatures. You may have heard any or all of the following:
• Leave your faucets dripping
• Heat your whole business
• Some pipes are freeze-proof
Which of these pieces of advice are true and which ones are just myths? You can find your answers below and avoid needing water line repair down the road.
Myth: All I Have to Do Is Keep Indoor Faucets Dripping
When a hard freeze hits Jackson Township, OH, your first instinct may be to let your kitchen and bathroom faucets drip overnight. While this can be helpful, it’s not the only thing you need to do to save your building from freezing pipes and potential flooding. Keeping these lines going may not protect your outdoor water lines and other plumbing in your business.
Myth: I Have to Heat Every Room in My Building
If you have unused rooms in your business, you may feel the need to heat them just to keep the pipes from becoming frozen and bursting. This may be inefficient and unnecessary. Instead, you can use tools like heat tape and other insulation to keep those pipes from bursting. This tape allows you to heat the parts of the building without worrying about frozen pipes.
Myth: Some Pipes are Freeze-Proof
You may have seen pipe companies claiming that their pipes can withstand the pressure of freezing and expanding again. While these pipes may be better than some, none are entirely resistant to ultra-low temperatures. Make sure to take other precautions against freezing pipes, even if you have plumbing that claims to be immune to bursting.
Frozen pipes can wreak havoc on businesses in Canton, Ohio. If a pipe in your building bursts, be sure to call a professional restoration company to help with clean up.

Quick Water Removal Helps Keep Your Retirement Center Safe
4/6/2021 (Permalink)
SERVPRO equipment used in a water damage. Pictured are air movers and dehumidifiers. We can help mitigate your water damaged building in Canton, Ohio.
If water ever leaks into your retirement center in Canton, the situation can be disastrous. Excessive moisture causes unsafe conditions for your elderly patrons living in your building. If building materials get saturated, they can fall apart and create hazards. Structural components can also weaken making your building unsafe for everyone. If a water leak goes unnoticed for longer than 48 hours, mold growth can occur. Once a fungus forms it can quickly put out spores that get into the air. Mold can cause health effects in some people. Therefore, microbes that exist in a structure's airflow system can create air quality issues for your residents.
Depending on how saturated the walls, carpets, upholstery, and any other materials inside your place of business are, there are a variety of different types of equipment and techniques our SERVPRO mitigation crews use to remove moisture. The first step is to extract or vacuum up the water. Our truck mount extractors can remove all the water in your building. Once the water is removed then the second step of drying out process of the building begins. Our crews will reduce the humidity in the air by placing dehumidifiers along with air-movers to help circulate the air and remove the water that is in any wet material in the room. Our crews will monitor and record the humidity in the area until the structure is completely dried. Lastly, the restoration process begins to make your retirement center, “Like it never even happened.”

Stay Safe This Holiday Season
12/21/2020 (Permalink)
Have a safe and Happy Holiday Season from your friends at SERVPRO!
In a year when large holiday gatherings may not be possible, fire damage restoration specialist Jesse Lee of SERVPRO of South & East Stark County says a focus on family decorating traditions and more intimate celebrations may take on extra significance. “It’s as important to keep safety top of mind with a small family gathering as it is with a large holiday party,” Lee says. “We all enjoy bringing the glow of the holiday season to our homes with Christmas trees or menorahs and candlelight, but these statistics from the U.S. Fire Administration show how easy it is for home decorating to turn into a home disaster.”
- The top three days for home candle fires are Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve.
- More than half of the home decoration fires in December are started by candles.
- A heat source too close to the Christmas tree causes one in every four winter fires.
- On average, one of every 52 reported home Christmas tree fires resulted in death.
In addition to exercising caution with candles and heat sources, it is important to follow manufacturers’ guidelines for holiday lighting, Lee says. “According to the National Fire Protection Association, electrical distribution or lighting equipment was involved in 44% of home Christmas tree fires. Though Christmas tree fires may not be common, they can be devastating to more than the house itself. They can destroy irreplaceable photos, mementos, and family heirlooms and even cost lives,” Lee says. “To help keep your holidays bright and your home and family safe, use common sense with candles and tree placement, and follow these important home decorating guidelines.”
- Only use decorations that are flame-retardant or not flammable.
- Check holiday lights each year for frayed wires or excessive wear.
- Don’t link more than three strands of holiday lights.
“In a year when so many of the things we take for granted have changed, we know people will still come together – in person or virtually – to celebrate family and holiday traditions,” Lee says. “‘Stay safe’ has become a common expression in the context of public health, but this holiday season, we urge all -area home and business owners to think about ‘staying safe’ in their homes as they prepare for and enjoy the holiday season.” SERVPRO is an industry leader and provider of fire and water cleanup and restoration services. Be Fire Safe at Home or Work During the Holidays
12/17/2020 (Permalink)
Be safe at work during the Holidays. Call SERVPRO if you need any emergency fire cleanup or restoration.
It's that time of year when we begin to celebrate the holidays and "deck the halls" – but be careful not to start a fire in the halls. We at SERVPRO of South & East Stark County have a list of tips that we believe will help prevent fires and holiday disasters in your home or business.
During the holidays we don’t think about fires starting, but it is a very serious issue and can happen to anyone – especially during this time of year when there are a lot of electrical decorative items being used to celebrate the holidays.
Here are a few precautionary advice and tips:
- Purchase a fresh tree. The needles on fresh trees are a true green color and difficult to pull back from the branches. Usually, the needles are harder to break from fresh trees. Old trees, on the other hand, are dry and brittle with needles that easily break. Keep your tree well-watered until you discard it.
- Don't go overboard on electrical cords. Connect lights to an extension cord before plugging the cord into the electrical outlet. Also, refrain from linking more than three strands of lights together and be sure to check the wires frequently to make sure they are not overloaded.
- Candle safety. It's vital that lit candles are monitored and are away from flammable items, especially trees.
- Turn holiday lights off when not home or leave work. Many people place their trees adorned with beautiful lights right at a window where outsiders can view them. But unattended holiday displays can be a bad idea. Be sure to turn the lights off when you're not home so that they don't cause electrical hazards.
- Smoke Detectors are Vital. Be sure you have working smoke detectors throughout your home on every level of your home or business. The detectors will alert you if they sense smoke from fires.
If you experience a fire damage in your home or business, call the professionals at 330-823-4088 to help restore your home or business.

The 7 Biggest Benefits of Hiring a Green House Cleaner
It may seem like a luxury to hire an office commercial cleaner, but when it comes to keeping your office spotless and sparkling, a professional can not only make sure everything is dirt and grime-free from top to bottom (including baseboards and ceiling fans), but can give you time back that you’d typically spend scrubbing toilets and washing windows. Even better, if you hire a green cleaner, you’re also doing your part to be environmentally responsible and take care of the earth. Read on to find out the benefits of hiring a house cleaner that’s planet-friendly and how it’s actually quite easy to be green (despite what that charming frog says).
- Green Cleaning Is Safer for Your Co-Workers
Certainly there are times when one needs to disinfect an area (like on surfaces that have had contact with raw meat or when someone has a contagious illness), but the chemicals in disinfectants can trigger asthma, allergies, and create other health issues. Exposure to living bacteria is actually good for us and according to some research may actually strengthen immune systems. Mostly though, by cleaning with products that don’t contain toxins, pollutants, or suspected carcinogens such as VOCs, solvents, chlorine, ammonia, sulfates, or irritating dyes and perfumes, you’re making sure your co-workers are in a healthy and safe environment.
- Green Cleaners Don’t “Green Wash”
Green cleaners wash your home in a green way, but they don’t “green wash,” meaning they won’t deceive you about the products they’re using to clean your home. If they say they’re using eco-friendly products and practices, then they really are. This means they’ll also be honest about which organic products are most effective and won’t tell you they’re disinfecting if they’re not.
- Green Products Are Better for Your Health
Most common household cleaners contain toxic chemicals that can have an adverse affect on your health, which is why the biggest advantage giving your home an eco-friendly cleaning is that everything will be cleaned with all-natural products. There are tons of household cleaners that can keep your home fresh and clean that are non-toxic, biodegradable, and made from renewable resources. That being said, it’s true that sometimes it can take a little more time and elbow grease to get green products to work because they’re much more gentle than chemical products. Chemicals may make cleaning easier, but they don’t make it any better. Still, green products won’t disinfect and kill bacteria the way traditional cleaning products do, so if that’s important to you, it’s something to think about. Though it’s also worth nothing that it’s not necessary to kill bacteria on a surface, just to remove it, which green products will do.
- Green Cleaners Provide the Products
In order to ensure your home is being cleaned with non-toxic and environmentally friendly products, most green cleaners provide all of the cleaning equipment and products, though they will use your products if you ask them to.
- Green Cleaners Are Committed to Being Green in All Areas
While using green house cleaning products is a huge part of taking care of the earth, green cleaners know it goes further than just that and make an effort to save water, reuse bottles, reduce waste, and implement sustainable business practices.
- Green Cleaning Is Also Safer for the People Doing the Cleaning
A sustainable cleaning philosophy means that cleaners are not exposed to toxic chemicals that could adversely affect their health.
- Green Cleaners Will Save You Time
Okay, this is true of any house cleaner, but it’s still worth mentioning. Whether you live in an apartment or a house, a green cleaner is saving you the time and effort it takes to keep everything looking its best. And they will clean on a schedule that works for you, whether that’s once a week or once a month. In addition, by taking care of your home and providing regular maintenance, you’ll save money in the long run
