Winter Storm Damage
The snow storm is coming! All the weather meteorologists are predicting a blizzard for Northeast Ohio this weekend. What can happen to your home if we have freezing rain, heavy snow or an arctic blast? When dealing with blizzards, lake effect storms and snow squalls, damage to your home can include roof and structural damage from heavy snow as well as damage to fascia, exterior pipes and siding.
During these intense winter storms ice dams can also happen. An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of your roof and prevents melting snow from draining off the roof. The water can seep into your home and cause damage to your walls, ceilings, insulation and other areas.
It is important to be very cautious during an ice and wind storm. The storms can leave a quarter of an inch of ice on surfaces. The weight of the ice can cause roofs to collapse, trees to break and fall and even power lines to snap. Being prepared before the storms is essential. Get your supplies beforehand and stay home during the storm. Get plenty of food, water, snow shovels, salt, candles, flash lights and a weather radio are a few supplies to have on hand.
