The 3 Levels of Fire Damage

Different kinds of damage can occur when a home or business contents or its structure is devasted by a fire. Of course, many items are destroyed by the flames of the fire, but there can be further damage that happens as heat and smoke residues impact the other contents and structure. Even more damage occurs when firefighters extinguish the fire. Water and other extinguishing agents used to put the fire out can cause even more damage to the structure. After a fire there are several different ways your belongings and structure can be damaged and its by burning, charring, heat damage, smoke damage and even water damage.
Not all fires result in the same level of damage and therefore, not all fires requite the same type of restoration procedures. There are three levels of fire damage that determines the required restoration services that need to be pre-formed.
Level One – Minor Fire Damage: Smoke residues affects only certain rooms or areas of the home or business and the amount of smoke residues is light to moderate. Restoration may involve dry or wet cleaning of ceilings, walls, floors and contents. Few areas need to be repainted and only minor items require total replacement.
Level Two – Medium Fire Damage: The amount of smoke damage is moderate affecting more areas of the home and requiring more cleaning and painting and rebuilding and more personal contents may need to be replaced. Items may be cleaned at the jobsite. Smoke odors are more noticeable and may require deodorization after cleaning.
Level Three – Major Fire Damage: Fire and hear damage is severe and structural framing and finishes may be charred, requiring structural repairs. Smoke residues are throughout the whole structure and smoke odors are very strong and pungent. Board up of your structure is required and temporary electric hook up is needed, and smoke and charred debris needs removal. Restoration will involve extensive cleaning of the structure and packing out of items is needed to clean off-site. Deodorization is needed to remove all smoke odors.
